Ken Kaneki
His Personality
His
mother died from overwork because of her sister’s ridiculous request and her
inability to throw away one thing to preserve the other. This left Kaneki with
great abandonment issues, and the Asaoka family that took him in (His aunt’s family)
grew distant due to his aunt’s humility that Kaneki; her sister’s son, was
smarter and higher achieving than her son Yuuichi. As a kid Kaneki adored his
mother’s cooking, especially her hamburgers before she passed. His father died
at a young age and he scarcely remembered his face and was always wondering
what kind of person his father was. As Kaneki read the books his father has he
felt like his father was with him which often kept him from being too lonely.
After
being held and tortured everyday by “Jason” he loses part of his self-identity.
His gentle and nurturing side goes dormant and he becomes Ruthless and brutal with
the aim of keeping his loved ones from harm while keeping aplomb. He no longer
is frightened of his ghoul side during fights and is more belligerent and resolute.
To attest this to himself and others he eats “Jason’s” kagune and he abandoned
his human side and accepted “Rize” into his self and became a “ghoul”. Though I
said that he “loses” his self-identity but it isn’t really gone; it just does
not show itself to others as it has always have, now his heart is set on his
loved ones and not everyone. He can become savage with a blink of an eye
against those he doesn't trust and his enemies, such as Tsukiyama, Ayato, and
Noro. Banjou has pointed out several times that Ken has created a precarious mental
barrier while with the 11th ward and this would little by little
tear his whole “self” apart.
